Hawaii Pacific Solar (HPS) realizes that solar-powered energy is helping us reach our environmental sustainability goals, but the sun can also cause the most common form of cancer in the United States – skin cancer. HPS supported the No Shenanigans Golf Tournament, held in memory of Nathan Bloom, son of Rob and Cindy Bloom of Maui, after they lost Nathan to melanoma.
During its seven-year tenure starting in 2009, the tournament raised more than $350,000 to support cancer research at the California Pacific Medical Center. Bob and Cindy continue to support the Center.
Melanoma therapies have changed significantly over the past 10 years. Treatments now available include immunotherapy, new drug combinations that treat melanoma more effectively, and targeted therapies that can slow or stop the body from reproducing cancer cells.
