The solar canopy over the parking lot will offset 27% of electrical load in 1 year

(Honolulu, Aug. 30, 2024) – Hawaii Pacific Solar (HPS), a leading commercial renewable energy company in Hawaii since 2008, was selected to install a 543.36 KW solar photovoltaic system over the parking canopy at the Ronald T. Y. Moon Judiciary Complex in Kapolei. The parking canopy provides parking for approximately 145 visitors and staff.
Solar production for the year is estimated at 622,988 kWh, offsetting about 27 percent of the judiciary complex’s electric load. This is equivalent to removing the greenhouse gas emissions produced by 104 gas-powered passenger vehicles in one year or eliminating the use of 48,972 gallons of gasoline. Additionally, it reduces carbon dioxide in the air by an amount comparable to what 508 acres of forest would absorb in a year.
The State of Hawaii Judiciary awarded the $5.13 million contract to HPS in June. The engineer of record on the project is RHA Energy Partners of Honolulu. Completion is projected to be by the end of 2025

“We are proud to be part of the State’s goal to achieve 100 percent clear energy by 2045,” notes Bob Johnston, president and chief executive officer of HPS.
